SNU ranked in the world's 5th in 2009 International Professional Classification of Higher Education Institutions by the Ecole des Mines de Paris - MINES Paris Tech.

The ranking is based on the number of a university's alumni currently holding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) positions in the 500 largest global enterprises named by Fortune magazine.

This year, the University of Tokyo ranked first, and was followed by Harvard University and Stanford University.

SNU ranked 5th with nine alumni holding CEO positions, including among others LEE Yoon-woo ('69, Dept. of Electrical Engineering) of Samsung Electronics, LEE Gu-taek ('69, Dept. of Ceramic Engineering) of POSCO, and MIN Kye-sik and CHOI Kil-sun ('65 and '69, Dept. of Naval Architecture) of Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Four other Korean universities were also recognized in this survey as Sungkyunkwan University (84th), Yonsei University and Hanyang University (89th), and Korea University (204th).
