SNU Strives to Cure So-Called “SNU Disease”

The SNU Center for Campus Life and Culture has diagnosed numerous SNU students with the so-called “SNU disease,” and is looking for ways to cure it. SNU disease is not a real disease, but refers to the compulsiveness and anxiety problems many SNU students have. SNU students who have been star students most of their lives have trouble accepting anything that falls short of perfect. When freshmen students receive their first GPA, they may begin to think of themselves as inferior and stop socializing. Last year, the Center for Campus Life and Culture offered 7,122 counseling sessions and 97 of them were about suicidal thoughts. In response, SNU plans to establish an Emergency Action Committee (name not yet final) and provide special help to high-risk students. The Center for Campus Life and Culture will double the budget and number of staff to shorten the wait time for counseling seekers, as last year the longest waiting period was 55 days.
