SNU’s Scholarship Rate Exceeds Fifty Percent

SNU granted a total amount of 45,600,000,000 KRW in scholarships to undergraduate students, with 25,875 students (74.1 percent of undergraduate students) receiving scholarships. SNU’s scholarship rate remained low until 2009 at 38%, but with SNU not raising tuition fees and the introduction of National Scholarships the rate has risen. With the help of government funding in the form of National Scholarships, SNU was able to grant scholarships to students whose monthly household income was below KRW 4,510,000, up from the previous KRW 3,440,000 limit. Also, the SNU Hope Scholarship, which is an alumni scholarship established in 2010, granted a total of KRW 9,100,000,000 to 3828 students.
