SNU College of Education to Select Students on a Departmental Basis

Starting in 2015, the College of Education, which has been selecting freshmen students on a broad college basis, will abolish such an admissions system. The college-based admissions system was first introduced 13 years ago to increase students’ interest in diverse areas of study, but has been constantly criticized as most students only chose popular departments for their major, leading to a shortfall of students in unpopular departments. The College of Social Sciences and the College of Humanities will be the only two Colleges to continue a college unit admissions system.
