[Research] Professor CHOI Bong Kyu of SNU's School of Dentistry and his team published a thesis revealing the cause of periodontitis in the May 25 editions of the prestigious journal Immunity. The team was able to find the cause by observing the process how the protein reacts when spirillum enters cells. Professor Choi said that it will be possible to develop a new cure for periodontitis by deactivating spirillum or preventing protein from combining with integrin.

[Research] Professor WOO Se Joon of SNU Bundang Hospital and his team discovered for the first time that the fluctuation of intraocular pressure during the day is the result of gravity. The team published their findings in the Journal of Glaucoma. The research was based on the data the first Korean astronaut YI So-yeon collected from the experiments conducted on the International Space Station in 2008.

[Academic News] SNU's College of Engineering has established a graduate school course titled "Product Development for the Neglected" this semester, and students taking this course have designed and developed new products for neglected neighbors such as the disabled or those who live in the Third World countries. The course includes developing "appropriate technology" products, which means products for the Third World country citizens with minimized resources and basic technology. The final presentation for the semester took place on June 13.
