An English survey company QS (Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd.) compiled a list of international university rankings. Universities were assessed and ranked based mainly on e-mail reviews from professors and corporations.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was the first world university ranking compiled by the Higher Education Research Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The ARWU list has been compiled and announced annually since 2003.
THE (Times Higher Education), a subsidiary of The Times, and the English survey company QS (Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd.) compiled a list of international university rankings. Before THE and QS started making university rankings separately in 2010, the THE – QS World University Rankings were announced annually for five years. Universities were assessed and ranked based mainly on e-mail reviews from professors and corporations.
Ecoles des Mines de Paris (Mines Paris Tech) in France started ranking each university’s performance in 2007. These rankings are based on the number of top 500 global CEO’s selected by Fortune Magazine from each university.
Taiwan has published ranking since 2007 by analyzing SCI paper publications and citations of world universities. The Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council conducted this ranking from 2007 to 2011, and the National Taiwan University took over from 2012.
Informatics Institute of Middle East Technical University in Turkey is conducting the largest size world university rankings as evaluating research performance of 2,500 universities worldwide. They use open-access data such as ISI (Information Sciences Institute) and Google Scholar.
